Vodka History, Production, Trends and Tasting

Dive into the History, Science, Market Trends and Production Practices of American’s favorite spirit, vodka! During this course, we will discuss Vodka’s beginnings in Easter Europe, the geopolitics of its migration to the US and the history of its advertisement to American Consumers. We will review recent market trends, then dive in to the science behind the expression as well as the wide range of production practices available to craft unique vodka expressions. The course will end with a comparative tasting of vodkas distilled from different base materials.

Caley Shoemaker began her career at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey in 2008, then transitioned to Master Distiller and General Manager at The Hangar 1 Distillery in Alameda, CA where she spent 6 years managing operations and developing unique spirts. Caley currently serves as the Master Distiller and General Manager at Altar Spirits and offers craft spirits consulting with the Desert Sage Group.
