Founded in 1874 by a railroad promoter, Mount Airy quickly developed a reputation as a resort destination. The highest elevation between New Orleans and New York, the whole range of the Blue Ridge Mountains makes Northeast Georgia an area where the quality of life continues to be a natural resource.
Just 80 miles away from Atlanta, the distillery is situated minutes from the Habersham County Airport which can accommodate private jets. Lake Russell, Burton, Seed, and Lanier all offer an abundance of recreational activities and draw a constant stream of regional visitors from Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Each season brings beauty and locals welcome tourists to fall festivals, holiday markets in the Alpine village of Helen, waterfalls, and all the riches of a simple life where generations of a family never leave. Newcomers who visit often never want to leave, and are welcomed into the community.
Mount Airy takes great pride in having Georgia’s second legal craft distillery. City Council members are always ready to support the efforts of the local businesses. It’s no wonder Mount Airy is considered one of the best places to live in Georgia–some would say anywhere!

The son of a family with a 150-year history of moonshine production, Ivy Mountain founder and Head Distiller Carlos Lovell began distilling at the ripe age of 16. Opening the distillery at 84 allowed him the opportunity to return to his family tradition legally and share the fruits of recipes he’d finetuned over a lifetime. Using entirely locally grown products, Ivy Mountain produced Apple and Peach Brandies, and Sour Mash and Aged Corn Whiskey that were known for a smooth taste resultant from the use of Georgia mountain spring water. Carlene, the daughter of Carlos, hopes to honor her daddy’s legacy by finding a buyer who has the vision and passion to continue the time-honored tradition of making spirits unique to this beautiful region.
