ADI’s International Spirits Competition Rising Star in Distilling Shortlist Nominee: Brad Abramson

Brad Abramson is a career scientist focused on sustainability. Brad received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in cell and molecular biology and an undergraduate degree from Purdue University. He founded New Tides Distillery in San Diego, California where he serves as their Chief Science Officer. His determination to conserve water lead him to develop a technique that can offset 100% of the freshwater used in the distillation process with ocean water. Brad also cultured a specially crafted marine yeast that allows New Tides to ferment their mashes with with ocean water without the need to desalinate. Brad’s research is likely to have a significant impact on way alcohol spirits are produced in a world with increasing demands on freshwater. And for these reasons the American Distilling Institute’s International Spirits Competition selected Abramson as a shortlist nominee for our 2024 Rising Star in Distilling Award.
